This week, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott released his “2026 Report to the People of Texas,” outlining accomplishments from the past year and setting priorities for the future.
The report, issued from Austin, is published during years when the Texas Legislature is not in session and no formal State of the State address is delivered. It marks the sixth such report since Abbott took office in 2015.
“Texas is the land of opportunity,” Abbott said. “We believe in hard work and in high expectations. We value our faith, our families, and our freedom. Texas isn’t just another state. It’s our home and heritage. When challenges arise, so do Texans. As we look ahead, we will keep building a stronger, more prosperous Texas for generations to come.”
According to the governor’s office, the report reviews commitments made to Texans and progress achieved in 2025, while also outlining goals for the coming year. It highlights continued efforts to strengthen border security, public safety, and protections for freedom, life, and property rights.
Education is also a central focus, with the report emphasizing efforts to ensure access to quality schooling for students statewide.
The document includes a summary of legislation signed following the 89th Legislative Session — which the report described as the most consequential in Texas history — as well as an overview of economic growth initiatives aimed at attracting business investment and expanding job opportunities.
In addition, the report highlights programs administered through the governor’s office designed to improve the quality of life in Texas communities.
The publication also features a section recognizing residents’ volunteer efforts and includes a personal reflection from First Lady Cecilia Abbott.
