The Dallas Express will host a public forum in Frisco next month examining the political and social impact of H-1B visa growth in North Texas.
The event, titled “Are We Still In America? The Political & Social Impact Of The North Texas H-1B Explosion,” is scheduled for June 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Revel Patio Grill, located at 9305 Preston Road in Frisco.
The forum will focus on how the H-1B visa program has affected North Texas communities, local politics, hiring practices, and public concerns about immigration, workforce displacement, and cultural change.
The H-1B program applies to workers seeking to perform services in a specialty occupation, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. USCIS says specialty occupations may include fields such as architecture, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, social sciences, medicine, health, education, business specialties, accounting, law, theology, and the arts.
The event comes as the H-1B program continues to draw national debate over how U.S. companies use foreign skilled-worker visas and whether the program strengthens the American economy or disadvantages American workers.
The Frisco forum will give attendees an opportunity to hear more about the issue and discuss its impact in one of the fastest-growing regions in the country.
