Storms moved through parts of North Texas on Sunday evening, bringing rain, lightning, gusty winds, and a flash flooding threat ahead of Memorial Day.

A Flash Flood Warning was in effect for the Dallas area from 5:03 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Dallas Love Field reported thunderstorm light rain, a temperature of 72 degrees, 5-mile visibility, and west winds at 6 mph with gusts up to 29 mph shortly before 6 p.m.

NWS Fort Worth said scattered storms would continue Sunday evening before weakening overnight. Frequent lightning and heavy rain posed the main threats, though a few storms could also produce severe hail and wind.

The Dallas forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms likely Sunday night, mainly before 7 p.m., followed by partly cloudy skies and a low near 70. The chance of rain Sunday night is 60%, according to NWS Fort Worth.

Memorial Day Forecast

Memorial Day should bring a mostly sunny start, but storms could return during the afternoon.

NWS Fort Worth forecasts a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Monday in Dallas. The high is expected to reach 89, with calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.

The agency said additional scattered storms are possible Monday afternoon across parts of North and Central Texas, with expected coverage around 20-30%. A few stronger storms could bring small hail, gusty winds, lightning, and locally heavy rain.

Monday night should turn mostly clear, with a low near 70, according to NWS Fort Worth.

Residents with Sunday night or Memorial Day outdoor plans should monitor the forecast and move indoors if storms develop.
