Fort Worth issued a precautionary boil water notice Monday, June 15, for parts of the Near Northside and an area around Lake Worth after a 24-inch water main break caused pressure to drop below state-required levels.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the notice for customers in the city’s Northside 2 pressure plane. Fort Worth said the pressure drop created the possibility that harmful bacteria could enter the public water system.

Affected Areas

The notice’s first area runs from Angle Avenue on the east to River Oaks and Sansom Park on the west, with Sherman Street marking the northern edge.

The southern boundary runs west from Angle Avenue along Northwest 28th Street to Loving Avenue, south to Northwest 25th Street, west to McKinley Avenue, south to Northwest 22nd Street, west to Belle Street, and south to Jacksboro Highway.

Fort Worth properties west of Jacksboro Highway between Sansom Park and River Oaks are also included in the notice.

The second affected area surrounds Lake Worth. The lake forms the western and southern boundaries, while the northern boundary runs from Malaga Drive to Hiawatha Trail, Interstate 820, and Jacksboro Highway.

The notice does not apply to River Oaks or Sansom Park.

What Residents Should Do

Customers in the affected areas should boil water before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing hands and face. The city said residents should bring water to a vigorous rolling boil for two minutes and let it cool before use.

Children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable to harmful bacteria, city officials said.

Residents may also use bottled water or water from another suitable source.

Bottled Water Distribution

Fort Worth opened a bottled water distribution site at the North Tri-Ethnic Community Center, 2950 Roosevelt Ave.

Fort Worth scheduled bottled water distribution from noon to 10 p.m. Monday, June 15, and will resume distribution at 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 16. Customers in the affected area may receive one case of bottled water per vehicle.

Repairs And Testing

City crews isolated the damaged main and are working to complete repairs.

After crews finish repairs, Fort Worth will collect bacteriological samples throughout the affected area. The city said testing takes about 24 hours, and officials must receive passing results from every sample location before they can lift the notice.

Fort Worth said it will notify customers when they no longer need to boil water.

The city also posted an interactive map that allows customers to enter an address and check whether they are in the affected area.
