Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched an investigation into a drone distributor over concerns about potential threats to privacy and national security.

The investigation targets Drone Nerds, LLC, focusing on its relationship with Anzu Robotics, LLC, which officials described as having ties to the Chinese Communist Party. According to the attorney general’s office, Anzu has marketed and sold drones in the United States while allegedly misrepresenting its security practices and concealing those connections.

State officials said the products raise concerns about unauthorized data collection and surveillance capabilities, including the possibility of access by the Chinese government.

The inquiry follows a lawsuit filed in February 2026 against Anzu to stop what the state called deceptive practices. Investigators are now examining whether Drone Nerds has played a role in continuing those activities.

Authorities noted that XTI Aerospace acquired both Drone Nerds and Anzu in November 2025. The attorney general’s office said there is evidence suggesting the companies may be working together to distribute drone products in ways that could circumvent Texas law.

The state also alleges that Drone Nerds marketed Anzu’s Raptor drone as being “headquartered and operated within the United States, giving you the peace of mind that your solution is delivered by your neighbors,” despite concerns about foreign ties.

As part of the probe, Paxton has issued a Civil Investigative Demand seeking information about the company’s business practices and whether it violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

“Under my watch, the Chinese Communist Party will have no influence in Texas,” Paxton said. “I will thoroughly investigate any potential threat to the privacy and security of Texans and hold any company that enables CCP surveillance accountable.”

The investigation is part of a broader effort by the attorney general’s office to address potential risks linked to foreign technology and data security.
