After multiple days of subzero temperatures across much of the United States, forecasters expect even more cold weather following just one day of reprieve on Thursday.
After a short break, freezing temperatures are expected to return to much of the U.S. beginning January 19. The National Weather Service expects Dallas-Fort Worth to reach a sunny high of 56 on Thursday during the day before dropping to a low of around 25 overnight. Wind gusts as high as 30 mph are also expected.
The inclement weather is a result of cold air that continues to be trapped across the Northern Plains and is expected to move south into the Lone Star State by the end of the week. DFW will see a high of just 37 during the day on Friday and lows of around 20 overnight.
“Another arctic cold front will arrive tonight. Low temperatures will fall into the 20s with wind chill values in the single digits or teens late tonight and Friday morning. Please continue to protect the 4 P`s!” said the latest National Weather Service advisory, referring to people, pets, plants, and pipes.
The cold is forecast to remain until at least Monday before the temperature starts to warm up again.
Since the severe winter weather began last week, at least 43 people have lost their lives in the United States, including 10 in the Portland, Oregon, area where the city continues to battle dangerous ice accumulation, as reported by CNN.
