Dallas police have publicly announced at least five homicide investigations in April, along with the shooting death of a 2-year-old child and two death investigations still awaiting final findings.

Latest Homicide Reported On E. Ledbetter Drive

The latest homicide happened April 24 in the 3000 block of E. Ledbetter Drive.

Police said officers responded at about 5:20 p.m. to an assist call and found a man with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

Officers took a suspect into custody, though DPD said charges remain pending the outcome of the investigation. DPD documented the case under number 058392-2026.

2-Year-Old Dies After Shooting

The case came one day after Dallas police responded to a shooting involving a 2-year-old child in the 1700 block of Hemphill Drive. Police said the child suffered a gunshot wound and later died at a local hospital.

“This is a heartbreaking and unacceptable loss,” Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said. “The death of a two-year-old is a senseless tragedy.”

Comeaux said investigators are working to determine what happened and whether anyone should face accountability.

Arrest Made In Park Row Case

Earlier in the month, Dallas police arrested 30-year-old Richard Coleman in connection with the April 17 shooting death of 21-year-old Paul Harris in the 1800 block of Park Row Avenue.

Dallas police arrested Coleman on April 20 and charged him with murder, according to DPD.

Other April Homicide Cases

Police are also investigating the April 17 death of 32-year-old Kiara Lewis, who died after police said a female suspect struck multiple people with a vehicle in the 3300 block of E. Trinity Mills Road.

Two women and one man also suffered injuries and later left the hospital. Police have not announced an arrest in that case.

Two other April homicide investigations remain open.

On April 12, officers responded to the 1900 block of S. Buckner Boulevard, where they found a man shot dead. On April 11, officers found another man shot dead in the 8000 block of Forest Lane.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will assist in identifying both men.

Death Investigations Await Findings

DPD is also investigating two April deaths not classified as homicides in the department’s public releases.

One involved a man transported from the 5600 block of N. Central Expressway with an apparent puncture wound. Another involved a man’s body recovered from a lake in the 6300 block of Miller Road.

Anyone with information about the E. Ledbetter Drive homicide is asked to contact Detective T. Gross at [email protected] or 214-671-3143.
