The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for much of North Texas on Saturday, including Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, and Parker counties. The watch remains in effect until 11 p.m.
The watch area covers portions of North Texas generally along and north of I-20 and I-30, according to an NWS Fort Worth graphic issued at 4:13 p.m.
The expected hazards include hail up to 4.25 inches, larger than softball size, damaging winds up to 70 mph, and the possibility of a couple of strong tornadoes.
NWS Fort Worth urged residents to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and to be ready to take shelter if a warning is issued.
The watch includes Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, Parker, Wise, Cooke, Hunt, Fannin, Lamar, Delta, Hopkins, Palo Pinto, Jack, Montague, Grayson, Young, Wichita, Archer, Clay, Franklin, Red River, and Titus counties.
A tornado watch means conditions could support tornado development. A tornado warning means radar has indicated rotation or a tornado has been spotted, and residents should seek shelter immediately.
North Texans should move indoors during severe storms, stay away from windows, and avoid sheltering under overpasses.
