The Dallas Stars let a 2-1 lead slip away with just 62 seconds left in regulation and would fall in overtime 3-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday night. With the overtime loss, the Stars fell to 3-3-1, while the Knights improved to 3-4. It was the first home loss of the year for Dallas and their first loss past regulation.

The Stars scored first early in the first period, with center Luke Glendening deflecting a shot from defenseman Miro Heiskanen past Knights goalie Laurent Brossoit. With 16:13 left in the period, Vegas defenseman Shea Theodore stole a pass from Heiskanen and fired a long shot past Stars goaltender Anton Khudobin to tie the score at one.

The game stayed tied until right wing Alexander Radulov tipped defenseman Jani Hakanpaa’s shot to give Dallas the 2-1 lead with 13:04 left in the second period. The goal was his first this season.

The Stars appeared to be on their way to victory until Khudobin failed to trap the puck behind the net late in the third period. This allowed Theodore to recover the puck and pass it to Knights center Jonathan Marchessault on the left, who fired past Khudobin to tie the game with 1:02 remaining.

Glendening tried to shoot the game-winner past Brossoit with thirty seconds left, but the shot was saved, and the game went to overtime. Dallas left wing Jason Robertson’s shot went out of play with 4:12 left.

With just over three minutes remaining, Vegas center Nicolas Roy managed to recover a loose puck under the Dallas goal, passing it to right-wing Evgenii Dadonov for the game-winning goal.

Brossoit saved 32 of 34 shots in his first start with the Golden Knights and played 60:42. Khudobin saved 18 of 21 shots for the Stars and played the full 61:59.

Hakanpaa, Heiskanen, and left wings Jamie Benn and Joel Kiviranta each had an assist for Dallas. Theodore, Roy, and center Chandler Stephenson had one assist apiece for Vegas.

Despite the loss, Stars head coach Rick Bowness had positive takeaways.

“The puck’s got to go in here at some point,” Bowness said in the post-game press conference. “Just got to stay with it. We saw a lot of encouraging signs tonight.”
