The Texas Hill Country in Central Texas has been named one of the best travel destinations for 2024 and was the only site selected from the Lone Star State.
Natural springs, butterfly gardens, quaint cafes, and delicious food, were some of the reasons cited by CNN Travel for including the region on the list.
“Meanderers will also find rolling hills and hiking trails, winding rivers, wineries, barbecue, music and dance halls, plus an explosion of wildflowers in March and April. And in 2024, April also brings a celestial spectacle to Hill Country — the total solar eclipse on April 8,” according to CNN Travel.
Texas Hill Country joined 23 other destinations from the world, including:
- Sumba, Indonesia
- Turkey’s Black Sea coast
- Tartu, Estonia
- Tainan, Taiwan
- Northwest Michigan
- Trans Dinarica Cycle Route, Balkans
- Culebra, Puerto Rico
- Angola
- Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada
- South Korea
- Albania
- Chile
- Abrolhos Islands, Western Australia
- Macedonia, Greece
- Panama
- Galicia, Spain
- Singapore’s offshore islands
- Mérida, Mexico
- Morocco
- Florida’s freshwater springs
- Fujairah
- Greenland
- Uzbekistan
The recommended destinations are said to be “largely undiscovered, or alluring in the offseason, or frequently overlooked for their larger first cities or neighbors.”
This is not the first time the Texas Hill Country has been recognized as a premier destination. Just last month, we reported that Fredericksburg, located in the heart of the region, was ranked number 20 on a survey of the most underrated winter destinations in the U.S., as reported by The Dallas Express.
In 2023, international tourism recovered to roughly 90% of pre-pandemic levels, and in the U.S., a record number of passports were issued.
