Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare is coordinating the 3rd Annual Tarrant County National Day of Prayer Luncheon on Thursday, May 7, at the Hurst Conference Center.

The luncheon runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1601 Campus Drive in Hurst. This year’s theme is “Glorify God Among the Nations: Seeking Him in All Generations,” based on 1 Chronicles 16:24.

Colt McCoy To Keynote Event

Former University of Texas and NFL quarterback Colt McCoy will serve as the keynote speaker. Brian Estridge, the voice of the TCU Horned Frogs and former co-host of the Hal & Brian Morning Show on WBAP, will emcee the event.

O’Hare told The Dallas Express the luncheon gives Tarrant County residents a chance to gather in prayer for the nation and local community.

“For decades, people across the country have gathered on the first Thursday of May, a tradition formally recognized in 1988,” O’Hare said. “This is a meaningful time to come together in humility, honor God, and lift up our churches, families, businesses, schools, government, military, first responders, and our nation in prayer.”

Congress established the National Day of Prayer as an annual observance in 1952, when President Harry S. Truman signed a joint resolution into law. President Ronald Reagan signed legislation in 1988 setting the observance for the first Thursday in May each year.

Proceeds To Support Faith-Based Nonprofits

Organizers plan to direct proceeds from the luncheon to Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Academy 4.

Academy 4 focuses on mentoring fourth-grade students.

“Fourth graders are on the cusp of adolescence and have the language skills and cognitive ability to gather information and formulate opinions and thoughts that are well organized and thought out,” the organization states on its website.

O’Hare said the luncheon has become a meaningful annual gathering.

“Each year we’ve participated has been a true blessing, and I’m grateful to continue this time of fellowship and prayer with the residents of Tarrant County,” O’Hare said. “This event is made possible by the generosity of our sponsors, and it has been a privilege to use the proceeds each year to support faith-based nonprofits.”

“This year, we are especially excited to support Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Academy 4,” he added.

Sponsors listed for the event include Birchman Baptist Church, Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South, Kelly Hart & Hallman LLP, Oncor, Chick-fil-A, Hillwood, A Perot Company, and other local organizations.

Individual tickets and sponsorship information are available through the Tarrant County National Day of Prayer Luncheon website.
