TMZ has received a second email from someone claiming to know the identity of Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapper, with the sender making “ominous statements” and declaring this their final attempt to help.
The latest development adds urgency to the search for the missing 79-year-old mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, who vanished from her Tucson home nearly two weeks ago.
According to TMZ’s report, the email arrived just after 9:00 a.m. Arizona time on Wednesday. The sender complained that they are “not being taken seriously” and made unspecified threats.
“TMZ is cooperating with law enforcement by not disclosing specifics,” the outlet stated.
The anonymous emailer explained their bitcoin demand, saying they will need the funds to lay low after identifying the kidnapper for fear of retaliation. They expressed concern about being “incriminated like that Carlos guy,” referencing a person of interest who was detained and later released.
This message followed Tuesday’s email demanding one bitcoin — worth approximately $65,000 — in exchange for the kidnapper’s name.
“We monitored the account all day, but nothing was deposited,” TMZ reported.
Nancy Guthrie disappeared on January 31 after being dropped off at her Catalina Foothills home. Her family reported her missing when she failed to appear at church the next day.
Investigators found blood drops on her porch and determined she was taken against her will.
On Tuesday, FBI agents launched “an extensive search” along roadways near Guthrie’s home. The agency urged motorists to exercise caution when passing law enforcement personnel in the area.
The emails represent the first potential leads in a case that has gripped national attention. Whether they offer genuine information or constitute a cruel hoax remains unclear.
