Police in Mississippi captured a suspect wanted in Dallas for assault with a firearm.

Latavien Manning was arrested on January 4, according to a release from the Port Gibson Police Department. Police busted him in the small southwest Mississippi town, after he had been on the run for six months from a Dallas charge of aggravated assault with a firearm

He is now awaiting extradition to Dallas, where he will face charges.

“This arrest demonstrates the importance of interagency cooperation, timely intelligence, and proactive policing,” Port Gibson police officials said

The department learned January 3 that Manning was in the city, according to the release. So investigators launched a “surveillance operation” to confirm his location and keep the public safe.

The next day, Police Chief Russell Dorsey, along with Officers Johnson and White, moved in. They arrested him “without incident.”

No injuries were reported, and the arrest was conducted safely and professionally,” officials said. “The Port Gibson Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community and to working with our law enforcement partners across the country to bring fugitives to justice.”

A suspect by the same name as Manning faced a misdemeanor charge for a terroristic threat in 2020, according to Dallas County court records.

While The Dallas Express could not independently verify if this was the same individual, the suspect took a plea deal – serving just five days in the Dallas County Jail, followed by probation and eight months of community service. The suspect also faced numerous traffic charges.
