Authorities in Tarrant County announced the arrests of 20 men following a two-day undercover operation in November aimed at individuals attempting to pay for sex at a Fort Worth-area hotel.

Working alongside Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and Arlington police, sheriff’s investigators posted fake online ads listing specific sexual acts and prices.

Suspects who responded, explicitly agreed to the acts, and showed up with cash were taken into custody.

“We need them to identify what sex act they want and also have the dollar amount exchanged,” explained Melinda Clark with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Human Trafficking Unit, reported Fox 4 KDFW.

Each of the 20 men now faces a state-jail felony charge of solicitation of prostitution, which can carry up to two years behind bars. Several also face drug possession or resisting arrest charges. No one has been convicted yet, reported Fox.

Those arrested included a sign-language interpreter for a local church, several married fathers, and one man who, authorities say, intended to traffic the woman to a nearby truck stop.

“This is occurring every day,” said Commander Kevin Turner, who leads the county’s human trafficking team. “It shows how strong the demand for commercial sex is here in North Texas.”

Tuner explained that most of the individuals affected by sex trafficking, as well as the traffickers and buyers, have grown up in the local area.

Advocates say arresting buyers is only part of the solution.

The Fort Worth nonprofit The Net offers a voluntary program called Men Against Sexual Exploitation (MASE).

“We know that just the threat of arrest or jail time alone is not going to keep them from doing this again,” said Ty Bowden, The Net’s associate director, per Fox. “We want to get at the root of what’s bringing them here.”

Since creating its dedicated human trafficking unit in 2021, Tarrant County has conducted several similar operations, reported Fox. With the 2026 World Cup coming to North Texas, Commander Turner says law enforcement is already preparing for an expected surge in demand.
