Two suspects have been arrested and charged with capital murder after a pregnant woman’s baby died following a shooting early May 3, according to Dallas police.
Officers responded to a call around 12:40 a.m. in the 4600 block of Wimbelton Way. Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an altercation at a nearby business involving the suspects and another man.
Police identified the suspects as 17-year-old Yeremy Zapata Aleman and 20-year-old Keyner Calero Jiron. Authorities said the pair followed the man as he left the business and drove away.
During the pursuit, both suspects allegedly fired into the man’s vehicle. A pregnant woman inside the car was struck, and her unborn child was critically injured, police said.
Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the woman to a hospital, where authorities said the baby later died.
Both suspects now face capital murder charges in addition to multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as well as narcotics and firearms-related charges. They were taken into custody and booked into the Dallas County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional details will be released as they become available.
