The Dallas Police Department is investigating a body found in a vacant lot.

Police responded to a call on February 10 around 6:00 pm at 300 North Jim Miller Road, located in Dallas City Councilman Tennell Atkins’ District 8.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the body of an unknown man.

The body was transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office, where the cause of death and the identity of the victim will hopefully be established.

The investigation is ongoing and is documented under case number 023758-2023. The case is being investigated as a homicide.

In cases such as this, the officers who responded to the call and found the body determine if there is evidence that needs to be preserved, according to the Dallas Police Department’s General Orders.

Once that is determined, no one will be allowed near the scene.

“No personnel other than medical personnel, or personnel needed to preserve the victim’s life or to protect other officers or citizens, will be allowed to enter the scene until the arrival of PES or the detectives who have follow-up responsibility.  The immediate supervisor of the officers responsible for protecting the scene may enter the scene if it becomes necessary,” the text reads.

Anyone with information is asked to please contact Detective Kimberly Mayfield at 214-671-3646 or at [email protected].

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information called into Crime Stoppers that leads to the arrest and indictment for this felony offense and other felony offenses.

Call Crime Stoppers at 214-373-TIPS (8477), 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

So far, District 8 has accounted for the most murders this year of any district in Dallas, as reported by The Dallas Express. Five homicides have taken place in District 8.
