After officers from the Richardson Police Department pursued a stolen car, the driver crashed into a brick wall. Officers ultimately arrested the suspect.
Richardson police tried to pull over a stolen vehicle the evening of January 13, according to a press release. The suspect fled, launching a pursuit before crashing into a wall.
The driver was 16 years old, Richardson Police Officer and Spokesman Mike Wieczorek said to The Dallas Express.
The suspect is charged with evading arrest or detention in a vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
“This incident reflects excellent situational awareness and commitment to safety, resulting in a successful arrest with no injuries,” Wieczorek said. “No information can be shared about juveniles.”
Richardson police found a reported stolen vehicle around 9 p.m., traveling near Centennial Boulevard and Greenville Avenue, according to the release. They tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver disobeyed and led police on a pursuit.
“The pursuit ended when the vehicle struck a brick wall and became disabled,” the release reads. “Following the crash, the driver fled the scene on foot.”
Officers searched the surrounding area, and they soon found the driver. They arrested the suspect “without incident.”
The Dallas Express asked Wieczorek to identify the driver, but he refused, citing the suspect’s status as a minor.
Wieczorek said the court will decide if the driver will be tried as an adult. He also said the suspect had no ties to any other criminal groups.
Earlier this month, officers with the Dallas Police Department arrested two 18-year-olds after a car chase through north Dallas, according to WFAA.
Additionally, a 16-year-old male was shot and killed in Carrollton on January 5, after a group of five teens traveled to the city for an alleged drug deal-turned-robbery, as The Dallas Express reported. And in December, four teens in Burleson were charged with murder after allegedly killing a 17-year-old in a drug deal.
