The City of Dallas has announced that many of its offices and public facilities will be closed on Monday in observance of Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.

The closure is intended to recognize the historical and cultural importance of the holiday. It is also intended to allow City employees to participate in events throughout Dallas to celebrate the holiday.

Last week, the Dallas City Council voted to remove the LGBTQ Pride flag raised at City Hall and replace it with a Juneteenth flag for four days in honor of the holiday, as The Dallas Express previously reported. The Juneteenth flag was raised on Friday, and will remain through Monday, after which the Pride flag will return.

For detailed information on Juneteenth events taking place across Dallas, residents are encouraged to visit the City’s official website.

The City departments and facilities affected by the closures are as follows:

All Dallas Public Libraries will be closed on Monday. Regular services and operations will resume on Tuesday. Residents can find more information about library services at www.dallaslibrary.org.

Sanitation:

The Sanitation administrative offices will be closed all day. However, there will be no interruption or delayed service for the collection operations, transfer stations, or the McCommas Bluff Landfill on that day.
