According to a new study conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Texans log the most working hours in the country.

The Lone Star State topped the list, with residents clocking an average of 1,790 working hours annually. Close behind was Louisiana at 1,787 hours, followed by West Virginia in third at 1,773 hours. Delaware was in last place on the list, with an average of 31.1 hours worked per job weekly.

At nearly 1,800 hours per year, Texans spend an average of 34.42 hours per job working each week, or nearly three and half hours more than the least-worked state in the country, Delaware. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, residents working nonfarm private sector jobs in Texas earned an average of $1,075 per week.

Most of the states working the longest hours in the country are located in the South, said Michael Dinich, founder of Wealth of Geeks.

“It will be interesting to see whether this trend continues in the future and whether these numbers influence people’s work-life balance,” Dinich said.

Within Texas, Dallas and Austin are considered some of the hardest-working cities, according to an October report by the personal finance website FinanceBuzz. However, the report ranked Dallas the fifth most “overworked” city in the United States, citing long commute times and one of the highest rates of active workers over the age of 65.
