Beekeeper’s Naturals has voluntarily recalled a specific lot of its Saline Nasal Spray sold only through Amazon.
Testing found microbial contamination that may include Aspergillus spp., according to a company announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The nationwide recall affects lot number 5950 with an expiration date of February 2028. The company said the product, manufactured by a third-party facility, tested above acceptable microbiological limits for yeast and may contain Aspergillus spp.
Potential Health Risk
According to the company, the contamination could pose serious health risks for certain consumers.
“In the population most at risk, such as people with weakened immune systems or lung diseases, there is a reasonable probability that use of the product with Aspergillus spp. contamination will cause serious and life-threatening infections such as invasive sinusitis and lung infections,” the company stated.
Beekeeper’s Naturals said it has received four reports of adverse reactions that may be related to the recalled product. Reported symptoms include sinus congestion, irritation, and infection.
Lot Sold Through Amazon
The recalled product is marketed as a sinus congestion rinse and was sold in a 1-fluid-ounce bottle. Consumers can identify the affected product by checking the lot number and expiration date printed on the bottom or back label.
Beekeeper’s Naturals said it has already worked with Amazon to directly notify purchasers of the affected lot.
No other Beekeeper’s Naturals products are included in the recall, including Nasal Spray Max.
What Consumers Should Do
The company advised consumers to stop using the recalled product immediately if the label shows lot number 5950 with an expiration date of February 2028.
Beekeeper’s Naturals is offering refunds and encouraged customers with questions to contact its consumer support line at 1-888-759-6910 or [email protected].
The company urged consumers who believe they have experienced health problems related to the product to contact a physician or health care provider.
Beekeeper’s Naturals said it has taken corrective action to identify and address the source of the contamination. The company said it conducted the recall with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
