Blue Wave has recalled 13,400 above-ground swimming pools after federal safety officials warned the products pose a drowning hazard to children.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall notice, citing a design flaw that creates unintended access points. The recall affects multiple Blue Wave pool models 48 inches or taller, including popular residential options sold nationwide.
The pools feature a compression strap that wraps around the exterior vertical support poles, creating footholds children can use to climb into the water. Even when ladders are removed, these footholds remain accessible, defeating standard safety precautions.
Affected models include the Blue Wave 15-Ft Rd 48-In Active Frame Pool, the 18-Ft Rd 52-In Dark Cocoa Wicker Frame Pool, and the Rustic Cedar 15-Ft Round 48-In Deep Frame Swimming Pool Package. The CPSC has published a complete list of recalled products on its website.
Pool owners should contact Blue Wave immediately to request a free repair kit. Until repairs are completed, the company advises consumers to drain their pools or ensure children cannot access them unsupervised.

The recall underscores ongoing safety concerns with residential pool products. No injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled Blue Wave pools.
Last summer, the CPSC issued a recall for similarly-designed above-ground pools with compression straps sold by Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup, affecting approximately 5.2 million units. Nine children aged three or younger drowned in these pools between 2007 and 2022, The Dallas Express reported.
