Five people were shot in an early morning shooting on Friday, leaving three people dead and another two injured.

The early morning shooting took place in an apartment complex in the 8500 block of Lazy Acres Circle on January 6, according to a news release.

The incident occurred in District 11. Dallas City Councilmember Jaynie Schultz, who oversees District 11, has been featured in previous crime stories in The Dallas Express.

The shooting occurred at 4:30 a.m. Five people were gathered in a back parking lot of the apartment complex when shots rang out, according to police.

Officers arrived on the scene to find that two men and one woman had been fatally shot; they were pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims, both male, were transported to a nearby hospital; one remains in critical condition and the other is in stable condition.

The shooting is currently under investigation. Police have not yet named a suspect, but do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community, per CBS News.

The Dallas Express reached out to the Dallas Police Department for comment. DPD said there was no additional information available at this time.

The first homicide of the year occurred on January 1 at around 12:40 a.m., when police responded to a call about a shooting in the 4500 block of Mar Vista Trail in West Oak Cliff. Later that same morning, at around 7:50 a.m., an 8-year-old child was fatally stabbed by his grandfather in the 3500 block of Labadie Drive.
