The City of Dallas District 11 saw 41 more crimes reported last month compared to July of 2021. The severity of the crimes committed last month hoisted Councilwoman Jaynie Schultz’s district to the third largest crime score increase in Dallas.
Though she is not The Dallas Express Crime Boss of the Month (CBOM) for August — that distinction goes to District 1 and Chad West, a four-time winner of the dubious honor — this is not the first time Schultz’s district has been in the Crime Boss spotlight. Schultz and District 11 have been named CBOM twice since last December.
District 11’s crime score for August, based on July’s crime statistics, increased 8.76% when compared to July ’22, placing it third on the list behind District 1 (up 38.35%) and District 7 (up 10.39%). Councilman Adam Bazaldua serves District 7.
District 11’s Reported Crimes Jump from 579 in July of ’21 to 620 in ’22
All told, District 11’s total crimes climbed from 579 in July of ’21 to 620 this year. Of the 30 crime score categories, nine saw increases this past July, 10 saw no instances in either year, and nine saw decreases. Two crime categories posted identical numbers for both years.
Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property saw the biggest increase in District 11, shooting from 47 instances last year up to 71 this year, an increase of 51%.
Assault Offenses increased at a rate of 44% in District 11 with 15 more instances.
The two crimes reported the most in District 11 during the month was Larceny/Theft Offenses (225 instances, up 15) and Motor Vehicle Theft (137 reports, up by 11), rounding out the double-digit crime increases for July.

The five remaining single-digit increases in District 11 are:
- Robbery: up from nine to 12
- Animal Offenses: up from zero to three
- Family Offenses, nonviolent: up from zero to two
- Stolen Property Offenses: up from one to two.
- Arson: up from zero to one
The Dallas Express has reached out to Schultz and her office numerous times (including this week) to ask about persistent crime increases in her district, but to date, neither Schultz nor her office has submitted comments on the crime issues.
The Dallas Express, The People’s Paper, believes that important information about the city, such as crime rates and trends, should be easily accessible to you. Dallas has more crime per capita than hotspots like Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and New York, according to data from the FBI’s UCR database.

What an excellent list if remedies.
I live in District 11. The city or county has leased some apts. (large complexes) two streets over from ours, that house sex offenders who are out on probation. We get regular notices about these people in the mail, complete with their pictures and a description of what they’ve done. There are two elementary schools within three blocks of my house. These offenders are listed as “high risk individuals”. My question is, does the D.A.’s office override the authority of the city council in where criminals such as these are housed? We see them walking on the sidewalks in the neighborhood, and children are out and about at the same time.
