New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church has launched “Morningside 100,” a church-led initiative aimed at expanding jobs, health access, and community support in Fort Worth’s 76104 ZIP code, an area Pastor Kyev P. Tatum Sr. says has faced longstanding economic and health challenges.

Materials posted Saturday by Black Texans, Inc. say the initiative centers on the slogan “100 Jobs. 100 Solutions. One Community Rising” and focuses on the Morningside area. The post presents the effort as a long-term strategy to connect residents with work, health outreach, youth programming, food support, and other services.

The push comes as 76104 has drawn attention for poor health outcomes. A 2023 CBS Texas report linked in the materials said the ZIP code had the lowest life expectancy in Texas at 67 years.

In the posted materials, Tatum says residents in the eastern part of 76104 face lower life expectancy, fewer economic opportunities, and more barriers to health care and long-term stability than other parts of the same ZIP code.

The materials list several programs under the “Morningside 100” umbrella, including the Inner City Coffee Exchange and Coffee Allo Cooperative for job training and business development, Health iN The Hood and the Clinic Without Walls for health outreach, ROOTS Academy for youth programming, Seasoned Seniors Services for elder support, Skills City, USA Resilience Responders for emergency response training, Nosotros La Gente Academy for citizenship and ESL support, and Faith in the Farm for food access and agriculture-based development.

The post also calls on city leaders, health systems, schools, businesses, faith organizations, and community partners to support the effort.

The materials do not say how many of the listed programs are operating at full scale, how the broader initiative is funded, or when organizers expect to meet the “100 Jobs” and “100 Solutions” goals.
