Update 3 a.m. Wednesday, results updated 12:30 a.m. Thursday

The Texas Tribune reports the following election results (winners listed below are in bold) based on voting estimates provided by the Associated Press. Several races have not been called yet as noted below. Among the night’s winners, House Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) narrowly defeated challenger David Covey by just 366 votes. Although Covey is entitled to ask for a recount based on Phelan’s small margin of victory, he conceded the election in a speech to his supporters, reported The Texas Tribune. A total of six incumbent Republican House candidates were defeated, which is expected to give Gov. Greg Abbott the majority he needs in the House to see movement on the issue of school vouchers.

10 a.m. Tuesday

In the aftermath of severe weather across the metroplex early Tuesday morning, the May 28 primary runoff elections are continuing as planned, although some polling locations opened late due to power outages.

Dallas, Collin, and Rockwall Counties have all experienced power outages according to Fox 4 KDFW. In Dallas, as many as 100 of the 280 polling locations were without power for a period of time. In Collin County, five polling locations were closed due to power outages or water damage. Rockwall County reported that the polling locations that lost power have since reopened.

Issues that have weighed heavily on the campaign trail during this runoff primary season, at least in the Republican Party, include school choice and Attorney General Ken Paxton’s impeachment.
