A new study finds that a city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is the safest in the country.

The study by real estate website SmartAsset ranked Frisco in the No.1 spot. This is the second year in a row in which Frisco has earned that honor. The city came in second place in 2021.

Three other Texas cities were listed in the top five, including two in the DFW metroplex. The top five were:

1. Frisco

2. McKinney

3. McAllen

4. Santa Clarita, California

5. Plano

The report said Frisco had the country’s fourth lowest violent crime rate (95 crimes for every 100,000 residents) and the sixth lowest property crime rate (901 for every 100,000 residents).

According to SmartAsset’s study, Frisco also averaged eight drug deaths per 100,000, making it the fourth lowest drug deaths among cities analyzed.

According to a new study from the University of Pennsylvania, Frisco, and Plano were also considered among the happiest cities in the country, with Frisco at No. 5 and Plano at No. 6, as reported by Fox 4.

Low rates of violent crime and property crime, as well as few drug- and alcohol-related deaths, helped McKinney and Plano earn their spots at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively.

Some of the data used in the study included FBI statistics, partially propped up with additional data from the website NeighborhoodScout.

According to the study, Frisco was the only city that landed in the top five for both safety and affordability. Frisco ranked as the No.5 most affordable safe city.

Other Texas cities on that list included Laredo, which reached No. 7, and El Paso, which ranked No. 12.

Arlington was No. 51 on the list, and Fort Worth was No. 52.

Dallas ranked way down at No. 130. Violent crime has spiked in the first months of 2023, and high rates of crime logged across the board in 2022 have largely continued into the new year.

Corruption tends to keep the numbers down.
