Officials are seeking the public’s assistance in bringing cow killers to justice, and an animal advocacy organization is offering a cash reward as an added incentive.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for killing and mutilating several cows in Texas. The mutilated cows were discovered in Madison, Brazos, and Robertson Counties.

Ranchers in Madison County discovered a six-year-old longhorn-cross cow dead with its tongue completely removed in April, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. Officials described the mutilation as a “straight, clean cut, with apparent precision.”

The animal had been left to decay for several weeks before the carcass was discovered. The investigation into the incident led to the discovery of other identical killings along the TX-OSR highway in Robertson and Brazos Counties. Each of the bovines was found with a portion of its jawline and its entire tongue removed.

Two of the more recent carcass discoveries were found with their anus and genitals removed with a similar level of precision as the first discovery.

“Regardless of this case’s bizarre details, six cows are victims of these crimes,” said Animal Legal Defense Fund Managing Attorney Emily Lewis, according to a press release.

“Since violent crimes are not always species-specific, we recommend this crime be taken seriously by the entire community. We will do all we can to support law enforcement’s search for answers and accountability for this case,” she continued.

Officials report that each of these cows was from entirely different pastures, herds, and locations. Law enforcement has not yet determined a cause of death for these cows nor have they discovered footprints, disturbed grass, tire marks, or evidence of struggle in any of these cases.

Investigator Carly Foster with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office told The Dallas Express that the department currently has no leads on who caused these mutilations. The office is continuing its investigation and coordinating with other agencies.

Citizens are encouraged to contact Foster at 936-348-2755 with any information relating to these incidents.
