Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and his wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton, have agreed to cancel their divorce trial, which was scheduled to start later this month, according to Collin County court records.
A judge approved the cancellation on Tuesday.
Ken Paxton’s attorney, Julian Johnson, said the couple jointly determined that a trial was unnecessary as they work toward resolving their differences.
“The parties have made substantial progress toward an amicable resolution of all issues and remain engaged in productive discussions,” Johnson said. “We are optimistic that a final agreement will be reached in the near future.”
Angela Paxton originally filed for divorce in July 2025 on “biblical grounds.” Court papers noted the couple had been living apart for more than a year. The case was quickly sealed at the Paxtons’ request.
Records in the matter were made public in December 2025 after a watchdog organization and news outlets successfully petitioned to have them unsealed. A judge ordered the release of nearly 300 pages of documents at the time.
The development comes just one week after Ken Paxton won the Republican U.S. Senate primary runoff against incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, as The Dallas Express previously reported. He will now face Democratic state Rep. James Talarico in the November general election.
Paxton’s time in office has been punctuated by legal battles, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. He was impeached by the Texas House in 2023 but acquitted by the Senate on charges that included allegations of an extramarital affair. A separate felony securities fraud indictment was dismissed last August once he finished a pretrial diversion program.
