Sen. John Cornyn’s campaign is facing accusations of “doxxing” U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt after a social media post allegedly published private identifying information during an escalating Republican Senate primary contest.
The controversy began after a February 13 post on X by Matt Mackowiak, a senior adviser to Cornyn’s campaign, accused Hunt of voter fraud and shared documents related to a provisional ballot Hunt attempted to cast in 2016.
A report from FOX 26 Houston stated that the original version of the post contained private identifying information before it was deleted and later replaced with a redacted version. The outlet reported it reviewed the unredacted post prior to its removal but did not publicly detail the specific information that was visible.
The redacted version remains visible on X.
Hunt: “We Will Hold Them Fully Accountable”
Hunt responded in a [post on X] (LINK TO HUNT POST HERE), accusing Cornyn’s campaign of endangering his family.
According to Team Cornyn, voting for President Trump is now a “crime.”
Meanwhile, they’re committing a real one, doxxing the family of a sitting Member of Congress.
We are pursuing every legal remedy available, and we will hold them fully accountable.

“According to Team Cornyn, voting for President Trump is now a ‘crime,’” Hunt wrote. “Meanwhile, they’re committing a real one, doxxing the family of a sitting Member of Congress. We are pursuing every legal remedy available, and we will hold them fully accountable.”
In a statement to FOX 26 Houston, Hunt said the publication of his information risked his family’s safety.
“In the current political climate that resulted in President Trump being shot, Charlie Kirk’s assassination, and other elected officials, including myself, receiving hundreds of death threats, the actions of the Cornyn campaign risk the safety of my family,” Hunt said. “What John Cornyn did, doxing my family and me, is beneath the standards of an elected official, and disqualifying for a candidate for senate.”
Paxton Weighs In
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also criticized the Cornyn campaign in a post on X, writing:
I still can’t believe that John Cornyn’s senior staffer last night doxxed Wesley Hunt’s family and posted his social security number on X and then Cornyn defended it.
Why isn’t the national media covering this? https://t.co/CR19M9biu6

“The first thing that needs to be investigated is why a staffer for John Cornyn is publicly listing the address of a member of Congress and/or his family. I’ve seen a lot of pathetic campaigning out of the Cornyn camp, but this reaches an all-time low.”
Hunt responded shortly afterward, replying, “Thank you Attorney General.”
Calls for Investigation
Rachel Ann Palmer Hooper, a former assistant district attorney and current volunteer general counsel for the Texas GOP, also called for a federal investigation and prosecution in a post on X, writing that Cornyn’s staffer should be investigated for publishing personal identifying information.
We need a permanent SDTX US Attorney to prosecute @JohnCornyn’s staffer for publishing personal identifying information of Congressman @WesleyHuntTX. I recommend Kim Ogg so we can have a backstop for and check on our Marxist DA. @SenTedCruz @KenPaxtonTX @KennethRWebster

Cornyn Campaign Defends Post
Mackowiak defended the publication of the documents in comments to FOX 26 Houston, stating the affidavit had been provided by Harris County elections and arguing the information was public.
“This is a clear case of perjury,” Mackowiak said, reiterating allegations that Hunt improperly attempted to vote in 2016.
The Cornyn campaign has not indicated that it believes any laws were violated in publishing the documents.
Escalating GOP Primary
The dispute marks a sharp escalation in the 2026 Republican Senate primary, where Cornyn faces a challenge from Hunt.
As of publication, no criminal charges have been filed related to either the voter fraud allegations or the publication of the documents.
