Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh took time from his busy interview schedule to appear at the March for Life in Washington, D.C., where he addressed the large crowd of anti-abortion advocates before introducing former NFL player Benjamin Watson.
“Thank you all for being here. It’s a great example that you’re setting,” Harbaugh told the thousands of onlookers who gathered in the snowy conditions.
“It is testimony for the sanctity of life. It’s a great day for a march! It’s a great day — this is football weather. Let’s go!” Harbaugh added to raucous applause from the crowd.
The event marked the 51st annual March for Life rally and the second since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Harbaugh went on to praise Watson’s dedication to the anti-abortion cause.
“What an incredible honor to get to introduce Ben Watson,” Harbaugh said. “A talented, courageous, fearless leader off the field. He is making a difference in the lives of so many. It’s my pleasure to introduce somebody who speaks truth, clarity, and grace, combines bold conviction with kindness. … A helpful warrior for the sanctity of life,”
Watson retired from the NFL in 2020 after a 15-year career. He previously spoke at the 2017 March for Life and has been an advocate for the anti-abortion movement for many years. He co-financed and directed a 2020 movie titled Divided Hearts of America, which delved into the abortion date, and in 2023, he released a book, The New Fight for Life: Roe, Race, and a Pro-Life Commitment to Justice.
Harbaugh is also a well-known anti-abortion advocate. He told The Daily Caller News Foundation before taking the stage, “You know, we all talk about human rights. There’s really no rights that are important unless you have the right to life.”
In an interview back in July 2022, Harbaugh said that he and his wife have been willing to take in any unwanted babies fathered by members of the teams he coaches.
“I’ve told [them] the same thing I tell my kids, boys, the girls, same thing I tell our players, our staff members. I encourage them, if they have a pregnancy that wasn’t planned, to go through with it, go through with it. Let that unborn child be born, and if at that time, you don’t feel like you can care for it, you don’t have the means or the wherewithal, then Sarah and I will take that baby,” Harbaugh said, according to ESPN.
