No.9 Baylor (14-4, 3-2) at Texas (13-5, 2-3)

Final Score: Texas 75, Baylor 73

Baylor has now lost back-to-back conference games after a stunning buzzer-beating score by Texas’ Tyrese Hunter earned the Longhorns the upset win at home. Hunter’s layup barely beat the clock. Baylor was held to just eight points in the final seven-and-a-half minutes.

“I knew I had to get down the court,” Hunter said. “I had already looked at the clock. … Get a foul or make a layup.”

“We didn’t want to give them a chance to draw something up, but obviously anything would have been better than a layup. So, that’s on me,” Baylor coach Scott Drew said of his decision not to use a timeout on the game-winning run.

No.15 Oklahoma (15-3, 3-2 ) at Cincinnati (13-5, 2-3)

Final Score: Oklahoma 69, Cincinnati 65

Oklahoma pulled out a win on the strength of free throws down the stretch after the Bearcats closed the deficit in the final seconds. Cincinnati, playing its inaugural Big 12 season, has now lost three conference games by a combined eight points.

“It was a gritty game,” Sooners coach Porter Moser said. “We made a bunch of big plays down the stretch, and so did they. A lot of things went into winning a game against a team that good.”

“I’m disappointed in how we performed,” said Bearcats coach Wes Miller. “It was a two-possession game. If we had won, I would still be disappointed.”

University of Central Florida (11-6, 2-3 ) at No.5 University of Houston (16-2, 3-2)

Final Score: Houston 57, UCF 42

Houston’s defense came up big, holding UCF to a shooting percentage of just 16%. The Cougars built a double-digit lead at halftime and continued to put pressure on the Knights through the second half to take the win.

“The process is far more important than the result,” Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said. “Our defense keeps getting better because we keep working on it.”

“They’re phenomenal defensively,” UCF coach Johnny Dawkins said. “They did a terrific job of taking us out of the things we wanted to do.”

No.24 Iowa State (14-4, 3-2) at No.19 TCU (13-5, 2-3)

Final Score: Iowa 73, TCU 72

TCU logged 27 turnovers in the game, and Iowa State held off a desperate comeback attempt down the stretch by the Horned Frogs.

“Obviously it doesn’t take a genius to figure out the problem,” TCU coach Jamie Dixon said. “Maybe I said it too much, talking about ball pressure, over penetrating.”

No.3 Kansas (15-3, 3-2) at West Virginia (7-11, 2-3)

Final Score: West Virginia 91, Kansas 85

West Virginia pulled off a massive upset over Kansas. Both teams shot above 50%, but it was the Mountaineers’ efforts via RaeQuan Battle and Patrick Suemnick that made the difference. The two West Virginia players contributed a combined 43 points for the win.

“It’s a surreal moment, man,” Battle said. “It’s hard to win games like that, especially doing it at this level and being a few steps behind because we had a crazy offseason.”

“I just think we wanted it more,” Suemnick said.

No.20 BYU (14-4, 2-3) at No.25 Texas Tech (15-3, 4-1)

Final Score: Texas Tech 85, BYU 78

BYU continued to have problems in the second half during the team’s first season in Big-12 play. After leading by 16 points in the second, Texas Tech took control of the game.

“We got a little stagnant in the second half,” BYU coach Mark Pope said.
