Southlake Carroll drubs Odessa Permian ‘in five innings’ to extend quest for third state title

Sports

One game separated the state champion Southlake Carroll Dragons baseball team from another lease on life for their three-peat hopes and the agony of going home wondering what could’ve been.

Fortunately for the Dragons, their quest for a third consecutive 6A crown continues with a resounding 11-1 win over Odessa Permian in Game 3 of the Class 6A best-of-three series between the programs at Lubbock-Cooper’s Pirate Field.

“Carroll closes out the series in five innings over Permian winning 11-1,” the team’s Twitter account tweeted on May 23.

The Dragons’ title defense was derailed last year after the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out their season, so 2021 for Carroll means essentially trying to wrap up unfinished business.

Carroll squares off with Flower Mound Marcus in the regional semifinals.
