Walk-off single helps Coppell ‘sweep’ Prosper and advance to next round

Sports

Game 2 of the Region 1-6A quarterfinal between the Coppell Cowboys and the Prosper Eagles on May 21 was a sight to behold for fans of intense pitching, but in the end, it was a go-ahead single that sent Coppell further into the postseason.

Coppell sophomore Tanner Sever knocked a base hit to centerfield with two outs at the bottom of the seventh to send senior Tony Vernars on a scamper to home, ending the 0-0 stalemate in favor of the Cowboys.

“With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, @SeverTanner hits a laser shot to score @TonyVernars and walk it off! Coppell sweeps Prosper to advance to Round 4,” the Coppell baseball team’s Twitter account announced post-game.

Coppell’s Tim Malone and Prosper’s Josh Barnhouse were locked in a pitcher’s duel all night until Barnhouse erred to the Cowboys’ advantage.

Coppell faces off against Keller in the Region 1-6A quarterfinal semifinal.
