Forbes has released its valuations for NFL teams entering the 2023 season, and the Dallas Cowboys again top the list.

The Cowboys remain the highest-valued franchise in sports, becoming the first franchise to reach the $9 billion value mark.

The Forbes valuation is primarily based on revenue and operating income. The Cowboys’ new value is a 13% increase from last season’s rankings.

Dallas has made $1.1 billion in revenue and has an operating income of $504 million. The most significant portion of the team’s value comes from the league’s revenue sharing, while its city and market size, stadium, and brand value were also taken into account.

Also in the top five were the New England Patriots ($7 billion), Los Angeles Rams ($6.9 billion), New York Giants ($6.8 billion), and Chicago Bears ($6.3 billion).

The Houston Texans placed 12th in the rankings, valued at $5.5 billion, while the Cincinnati Bengals had the least value at $3.5 billion. The Miami Dolphins had the most significant change in value, with a 24% increase.

The NFL had the highest average team value of the eight leagues Forbes has studied, beating out the NBA and MLB with a $5.11 billion average. International soccer, Formula One, and the Indian Premier League followed, while the NHL and MLS were the bottom two.

MLS was the only league with a value under $1 billion.

Forbes noted that recent sales of the Denver Broncos and the Washington Commanders elevated the overall numbers for the league, and the league may need better regulation of such purchases in the future.
