Dallas Highland Park sophomore Preston Cooper is the new state individual champion after firing a 141 in the UIL State Golf Tournament.

A day after firing a 70 score, Cooper game back to fire a 71 in putting the final touches on his two-day masterpiece.

“Sophomore Preston Cooper is the 2021 state champion and senior captains Hudson Weibel and Thompson Huthnance tied for third,” Highland Park coach Johnny Ringo posted on the team’s Twitter page. “Awesome job guys.”

With two teams entered in the tournament, Cooper’s Gold Team finished third overall with a total score of 588, while the Blue Team walked away with the team title with an overall score of 585, two strokes ahead of Boerne Champion.

The Gold Team also received strong finishes from Thompson Huthnance with an individual score of 143 and Mack Duvall, who finished at 151.

Led by senior Hudson Weibel, who posted a 143 to finish tied with Huthnance and Granbury’s Ty Holbrook for third, the Blue Team’s top finish marked the school’s 22nd state title and fourth straight.
