The Highland Park golf team doubled its pleasure at the recent UIL State golf tournament, walking away with first and third place finishes.

In earning its 22nd state title, the Scots sent two teams to the tourney, with the blue team finishing first and the gold team third. In leading the gold team, Preston Cooper was also crowned individual state champion.

“Scots golf teams took first and third at the UIL 5A Boys State Golf Tournament May 18 in Georgetown,” the school posted on its Twitter page. “It is the fourth consecutive team title for HP and the 22nd overall. Go Scots!”

Cooper fired scores of 70 and 71 on back-to-back days to finish with an overall 141 score, a stroke better than Austin Anderson’s Trevor Mierl.

The gold team also received strong finishes from Thompson Huthnance with a total score of 143 and Mack Duvall, who finished at 151.

Meanwhile, in finishing two strokes ahead of Boerne Champion, the blue team was led by Hudson Weibel, who posted a total score of 143 (72-71) to finish in a three-way tie for third place with Huthnance and Granbury’s Ty Holbrook.

Christian Clark (77-70—147), Pierce Johnson (77-71— 148), Key Coker (75-74— 149) and Joe Stover (75-77— 152) were also on their games for the victors.
