Danielle D’Souza Gill says motherhood should be celebrated rather than treated as something that diminishes a woman’s value.
In the latest segment of Let’s Talk Local, host Sarah Zubiate Bennett asks D’Souza Gill where she believes progressive ideology has negatively affected women. D’Souza Gill points first to what she calls “attacks on motherhood.”
“The first thing that sticks out to me that I think is maybe one of the most evil is the attacks on motherhood,” D’Souza Gill said. “I think anything we can do to stop the attacks on mothers in that way would be so important.”
The conversation then turns personal. Bennett shares that she had an abortion at age 15 following what she described as a traumatic experience and later learned that her biological mother had placed her for adoption while struggling financially. Bennett says those experiences reshaped how she views abortion, adoption, faith and grace.
Bennett asks D’Souza Gill, author of The Choice, what she would tell women who view support for abortion rights as compassion for women facing difficult circumstances. D’Souza Gill rejects that argument and explains why she believes motherhood and family deserve greater cultural support.
“No one is beyond salvation or God’s grace,” Bennett said.
