A helicopter is seen flying near buildings in Hammonton, New Jersey, in video shared on social media following a reported midair collision on December 28, 2025.

One person was killed and another critically injured after two helicopters collided midair and crashed Sunday morning in Hammonton, according to local authorities.

Emergency crews responded to reports of an aviation crash around 11:25 a.m. in the 100 block of Basin Road, the Hammonton Police Department confirmed. Officers arriving at the scene found one of the helicopters engulfed in flames, which firefighters quickly extinguished.

The investigation could take months to complete. Preliminary findings typically emerge within days of major aviation accidents.

Police said the collision involved two helicopters, though officials have not yet released details about the aircraft, flight paths, or what led to the midair impact.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and will lead the investigation into the crash, authorities said.

New Jersey Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way acknowledged the incident in a post on X, stating that state and local emergency personnel were actively responding at the scene.

“The Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management, Hammonton Police Department, and New Jersey State Police personnel are on the scene,” Way wrote.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims or confirmed whether the helicopters were conducting training, private flights, or commercial operations.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details are expected to be released as federal authorities assess the wreckage and flight data.
