ICE has busted a member of ISIS outside Washington, D.C., who entered under former President Joe Biden’s administration.
ICE-Homeland Security Investigations arrested Jaan Shah Safi, an Afghan national who supported multiple ISIS groups, in Waynesboro, Virginia, on December 3, according to a press release from the Department of Homeland Security. He was allegedly an “illegal alien terrorist” who aided Syria-Khorasan (ISIS-K) and the Islamic State of Iraq (ISIL).
“Today, our heroic ICE officers arrested Jaan Shah Safi, a terrorist who provided material support to ISIS-K,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem in the release.
Safi also provided weapons to his father, the commander of a militia group in Afghanistan, according to the release. He reportedly entered Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 8, 2021, under Biden’s “Operation Allies Welcome.” He applied for Temporary Protected Status, but after Noem ended the program for Afghans in May, his application was terminated.
“This terrorist was arrested miles from our nation’s capital where our brave National Guard heroes, Sarah Beckstrom and Andrew Wolfe, were shot just days ago by another unvetted Afghan terrorist brought into our country,” Noem said.
Afghan national Ramanullah Lakanwal reportedly ambushed Beckstrom and Wolfe near the White House on November 26, as The Dallas Express reported. Beckstrom died from her injuries, and Wolfe remains in critical condition but shows signs of improvement.
Lakanwal also entered through Biden’s “Operation Allies Welcome.” In his first court appearance on December 2, according to WECT, he pleaded not guilty.
The day before the attack, law enforcement arrested Afghan national Mohammad Alokozay, on November 25, for allegedly plotting to bomb Fort Worth, as The Dallas Express reported. He reportedly praised the Taliban and was planning to build a car bomb.
The suspect was booked as “white” due to decades-old procedures and faced a federal charge for sending an interstate threat.
Like the other two suspects, Alokozay entered the country through “Operation Allies Welcome.” In the video of the threats, obtained by The Dallas Express, he apparently said he “came to commit suicide,” and kill Americans along with two other men on the call.
Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn warned The Dallas Express that this kind of threat was “not if but when.”
The Biden administration used “unvetted referrals” to admit nearly 190,000 Afghan nationals into the country, according to the release. Noem said officials only determined “who they were and their intentions when they were already on American soil.”
“President Trump has been working every day since January 20 to clean up this unmitigated national security crisis,” Noem said.
Trump halted Afghan refugee resettlement on his first day in office, and also suspended entry for Afghan nationals, according to the release. DHS officials vowed to prioritize the “protection and safety of Americans and our homeland.”
“The Biden administration created one of the worst national security crises in American history,” Noem said.
