The North Texas Tollway Authority has approved new extensions for the Dallas North Tollway, with construction expected to begin next spring.
Board members for the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) unanimously approved the extension contract during their meeting on December 20, according to a press release.
The NTTA announced the opening of a previous extension of the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) over U.S. 380 in March. NTTA officials had extended twice the public comment period over the U.S. 380 bypass project, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The new six-mile extension will have three lanes in both directions and extend from U.S. 380 to FM 428 through Prosper and Celina. The project is expected to cost $183 million, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
“We are excited to expand the DNT, a backbone of North Texas, to provide travel options to new communities,” said Elizabeth Mow, assistant executive director of infrastructure for the NTTA, according to the release. “History has shown, where NTTA roads go, economic development and prosperity soon follow.”
This project is expected to start in the spring of next year and be completed by the end of 2027, weather permitting.
Work to widen the DNT between Sam Rayburn Tollway and U.S. 380 in Frisco remains ongoing.
NTTA comprises member counties, which include Dallas, Denton, Collin, and Tarrant. However, it also operates in Ellis and Johnson Counties. The agency owns and operates DNT, President George Bush Turnpike, Sam Rayburn Tollway, Addison Airport Toll Tunnel, Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge, Mountain Creek Lake Bridge, Chisholm Trail Parkway, and 360 Tollway.
