The City of Frisco’s utility payment system resumed operations Thursday morning after nearly a month offline due to issues with its vendor.
BridgePay Network Solutions, the city’s payment processor, suffered a nationwide service disruption starting on February 6 that took the utility billing portal offline, according to city alerts. Customers initially could pay in person at City Hall inside the George Purefoy Municipal Center at 6101 Frisco Square Blvd.
The city suspended late fees and shutoffs while BridgePay worked to restore service following a ransomware attack. BridgePay reported that there is no evidence that credit card data was accessed or compromised. No city data or applications were compromised, either. The outage also affected the city’s Interactive Voice Response phone system, blocking credit and debit card payments through that channel.
Officials provided alternative payment methods, including a temporary secure online option with an instructional video on YouTube. Other choices encompassed direct bank payments, the drop box behind City Hall, and pay-by-mail.
The temporary online solution ended on March 4 at 3 p.m. to prepare for the full system’s return at 8 a.m. on March 5. Regularly scheduled payments will process as usual, and the standard online portal is available at municipalonlinepayments.com/friscotx/utilities.
City statements apologized for the inconvenience caused by the outage and thanked residents for their patience during the technical challenges.
