Beginning Friday evening, northbound East Loop 820 will be closed to motorists for part of the weekend for bridge construction.

Beginning at 9 p.m. March 1, northbound East Loop 820 at SH 10 will be closed to traffic, with motorists rerouted to a signed detour, according to a post on X from the official account of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Forth Worth District. The roadway is scheduled to reopen by 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, following the completion of the work.

The temporary disruption on the highway is part of the larger Texas Clear Lanes initiative to help improve mobility throughout the state, a $3.8 billion congestion relief project initiated by Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Legislature. In 2022, The Dallas Express reported that motorists in DFW spent over 127 million hours in traffic delays. This equates to 44 million gallons of spent fuel, costing over $3 trillion.

“Project improvements will reconstruct the existing roadway and access ramps, builds additional lanes in each direction, replaces [sic] the Trinity River Bridges, and creates [sic] new direct connectors to and from SH 121,” states the overview on the Keep 820 Moving website, part of the Texas Department of Transportation.

TxDOT also said that Eastbound SH 121 at SH 10 will be reduced to one lane this weekend. Drivers are recommended to find alternate routes.
