A person was found dead in the water at Lewisville Lake after a multi-agency search and rescue operation near Lake Park, according to the Lewisville Fire Department.
Lewisville Fire Department rescue teams located and recovered the individual from the water early Monday morning. The department said the person’s family and loved ones have been notified or are being addressed through the formal notification process.
The search began after Lewisville firefighters were dispatched following a report of a missing person.
Crews from the Lewisville Fire Department and Lewisville Police Department joined Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the operation.
Responders searched across the lake, shoreline, and nearby inland areas.
Specialized equipment included multiple rescue boats equipped with sonar, water drones searching the shoreline and shallow areas, and unmanned aircraft systems providing aerial reconnaissance.
During the search, authorities asked the public to stay away from the Lake Park area. Officials said keeping roadways, boat ramps and park access points clear was necessary to allow emergency crews and dive teams to operate safely.
The Lewisville Fire Department did not release additional information about the individual, including their identity, citing the family’s privacy and the pending medical examiner review.
Because the death occurred in the lake, Texas Game Wardens is now the lead agency investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. The Lewisville Fire Department said additional information about the investigation or future updates should be obtained from the Game Wardens.
Authorities have not released further details about what led to the person’s death.
