Three men died after a shooting outside a Garland home Sunday morning, September 13, in an incident police believe may have stemmed from a disturbance the previous night.
Officers responded around 7:45 a.m. to the 400 block of Bay Shore Drive and found three people outside a residence with gunshot wounds, according to the Garland Police Department’s initial announcement.
Two men were pronounced dead at the scene. The third was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later died, police confirmed in updated reporting by FOX 4.
Investigators Examine Earlier Disturbance
Garland police spokesman Pedro Barineau said investigators believe the three men knew one another, although the nature of their relationships remained under investigation. He said a disturbance the night before may have carried over into Sunday morning.
Officers located two vehicles that had left the scene and detained several occupants for questioning. Those detained were cooperating with investigators, Barineau said, according to FOX 4.
Authorities initially described the shooting as an isolated incident. Detectives were continuing to determine what led to the gunfire and each person’s involvement.
Family Identifies One Man Killed
Relatives identified one of the men as 62-year-old Jose Borrego, WFAA reported. His family told the station he was trying to break up a fight when he was shot.
The family’s account has not been independently verified by The Dallas Express.
Police are seeking surveillance footage to help establish what happened. Anyone with information or video related to the shooting is asked to call the Garland Police Department at 972-485-4840.
