Saturday is shaping up to be a great day to get out of the house and spend some quality time with friends, family, or that special someone. Check out these weekend events taking place in the metroplex.

Grill & Chill with Heroes United:

Grilling and chilling are considered a quintessential Texas pastime, and The Green Elephant in Dallas will be doing a little of both this weekend on Saturday as it hosts the Heroes United Grill and Chill: A Charity Event.

The April 29 Grill and Chill is a family-friendly superhero BBQ bash that begins at 2 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m.

“It’s a family-friendly event with a bounce house, face painting, a dunk tank, a bunch of superheroes roaming around, and some fantastic barbecue,” event organizer Jantzen Ray told The Dallas Express. The event will also feature special guest “DJ Leo J” Joel Salazar.

Proceeds from the event benefit Heroes United, a nonprofit organization whose volunteers dress as superheroes to deliver toys, games, and basic necessities to children facing adversity and poverty

“We are trying to raise some money so we can buy some toys and household items to give away for kids in need on their birthday and on Christmas,” said Ray. “Our ultimate goal is to spread joy and inspiration, but we can’t do so without the ability to stay in business.”

The Green Elephant is located at 5627 Dyer St. in Dallas.

Irving Taco and Margarita Festival:

Taco ’bout a good time! The Taco and Margarita Festival comes to the Toyota Music Factory this weekend on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.

Festivities include a live DJ, music, several taco vendors, margarita vendors selling premium margaritas, food trucks, and a chance to win an all-inclusive trip to Mexico.

The price of admission ranges from $20 for a non-sampler ticket to $1000 for a 10-person VIP table, with various price points in between.

More information about the festival can be found here.

Family Fit Fest:

For families focused on fun and fitness, the Community Council of Greater Dallas will host the Family Fit Fest on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Family Fit Fest is a free community expo aimed at encouraging people to exercise and get fit in a fun, family atmosphere.

There will be plenty of “educational and physical activities” and exposure to resources and services from over 90 businesses and non-profit organizations.

Although the event is free to attendees, proceeds from sponsorships, vendors, and donations benefit the Community Council of Greater Dallas, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is “to move individuals and families from surviving to thriving.”

Arbor Day Celebration:

When was the last time you had a chance to climb a tree? You just might get an opportunity to do so at the City of Irving’s Arbor Day celebration at Heritage Park on Saturday.

“Come climb a tree with the City of Irving Forestry Team and see, first hand, why trees are so valuable to the community in promoting healthy lives,” a City statement reads.

This weekend the City celebrates its 14th year as a Certified Tree City, USA, a recognition granted to the City by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forestry Service and National Association of State Foresters.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., “will feature live entertainment, face painters, and an inflatable bounce house.” City officials from various departments will be on hand to discuss topics such as mosquito control, water quality, and how to keep Irving beautiful.

The first 150 attendees will receive a free three-gallon containerized tree.

For more information about the Arbor Day Celebration, visitors are asked to call (972) 721-2501.
