Two ZIP codes in the DFW area have been ranked high on the national “Scare Score” list, as per Instacart, the popular grocery delivery service.

The company has ranked the top Halloween-celebrating areas that are most likely the best spots in America for trick-or-treating based on consumer Instacart purchases such as Halloween candy, costumes, and decorations, producing a Scare Score using Instacart’s exclusive metric.

Instacart announced the top 10 ZIP codes with the highest Scare Scores, ensuring top-notch trick-or-treating experiences, per Instacart’s trends expert, Lourentia Romaniuk.

This year’s top Halloween haunting location is Lehi, Utah, which garnered a perfect 100 on Instacart’s proprietary Scare Score.

Fear not, those who can’t make it to Lehi, Utah, this trick-or-treat season. The Highland Park and University Park area of Dallas, with ZIP code 75205, came in a very close second with a Scare Score of 99.7. Third place went to Houston’s 77024 with a score of 98.9, followed by 76092 in Southlake and Grapevine with a score of 98.6. Another location in Utah — Saratoga Springs, 84045 — took fifth place, scoring 98.5.

Rounding out the remaining top 10 are Chicago, Illinois’ 60606 (98.0); Beaumont, California’s 92223 (97.8); Garden City, New York’s 11530 (97.4); Moorestown, New Jersey’s 08057 (97.3); and Lancaster, California’s 93536 (97.2).

Of the 30 top ZIP codes listed, two in Austin, 78738 and 78746, claimed the No.12 No.26 spots, respectively, and 75078 in Prosper landed at No.28.

So, what are trick-or-treaters likely to find in their treat bags this year? Candy trends from last year are expected to continue this year, according to Instacart. The five top-selling Halloween candies in America last year were Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, followed by Peanut M&M’s, M&M’s, Tootsie Pops, and Twizzlers. Hershey’s Milk Chocolate ranked No.6, followed by Sour Patch Kids, Candy Corn, and KitKats, with Starburst taking the No.10 spot.

However, some states purchase certain candies more frequently than the national average. Instacart statistics reveal that consumers in both Texas and Hawaii purchase more Ferrero Rocher Hazelnut Chocolates than those in other states. Fancy!

In Texas, the three most popular Halloween candies overall are Sour Patch Kids, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Starburst, according to CandyStore.com.

Nationwide, candy sales are expected to hit $3.68 billion this Halloween season, up from $3.18 billion last year.
