The Powerball jackpot continues to rise after another week with no grand prize winners, rising to over $1.5 billion, the third-largest in the game’s history and the fourth-largest among lottery jackpots across the country.
Powerball held its latest drawing on October 7. The estimated jackpot at the time was around $1.42 billion, with a one-shot cash value of $623.9 million. The jackpot topped $1 billion last week after another drawing produced no jackpot winner, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The winning numbers on Saturday night were 47, 54, 57, 60, and 65, with a Powerball of 19 and power play of 3x. The drawing yielded multiple winning tickets amounting to millions of dollars in prizes. However, no grand prize winner was produced.
Powerball announced the jackpot prize had since risen to  $1.55 billion.
Last Monday’s drawing yielded 10 Match 5 winners in California, Texas, Louisiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin, among other states, winning $1 million. In addition, two more winners in Iowa and Maine had won the powerplay, winning $2 million each.
A total of 85 other people each won $50,000, while 27 more won $150,000.
Powerball will have its next drawing on the evening of October 9. The drawing will be the “first time in Powerball history that back-to-back jackpot cycles have generated billion-dollar grand prizes” and the 35th drawing this cycle.
“If a player wins the jackpot on Monday night, they will have the choice between an annuitized prize worth an estimated $1.55 billion or a lump sum payment estimated at $679.8 million,” said Powerball in its announcement. “Both prize options are before taxes. If the winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.”
Powerball is played in 45 states and the District of Columbia. It costs people $2 per game. The overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning the jackpot prize are 1 in 292.2 million.
