Free donut deals this Friday are the sprinkles on top of an already sweet day.

National Donut Day is an annual celebration that takes place on the first Friday of June. This year it falls on June 2.

The day was established in 1938 to honor the work of the Salvation Army’s Donut Lassies to boost soldiers’ morale on the front lines in France during World War I. Alongside other treats like apple pie, they would prepare between 2,500 and 9,000 donuts daily to give soldiers a taste of home.

Today, donut lovers across the nation will have many sweet deals to choose from to ring this celebration in.

Dunkin’ Donuts

Participating Dunkin’ locations are offering customers a complimentary donut of their choice with any beverage purchase while supplies last.

“Friends don’t let friends miss out on free donuts,” said Jill McVicar Nelson, chief marketing officer at Dunkin’, per a press release.

Some restrictions might apply at certain locations, according to USA Today.

Krispy Kreme

Offering a less cake-like and a more melt-in-your-mouth kind of treat, Dunkin’s rival Krispy Kreme is giving customers a National Donut Day freebie with no purchase necessary.

Krispy Kreme is also upping the ante with another deal: Any customer buying a dozen donuts can add a dozen original glazed donuts to their order for just $2 more.

Both deals are only valid at participating locations and while supplies last.

The Dapper Doughnut

The Dapper Doughnut is giving away a free six-piece helping of either cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar donuts with any purchase. Online orders require a minimum purchase of $5.

The offer is limited to one per customer but will be valid beyond International Donut Day, lasting through June 4.

In Dallas, The Dapper Doughnut can be found in the Galleria Mall.

Taco Bell

Is this revenge on Dunkin’ for infringing on taco turf by introducing the Dunkin’ Breakfast Taco in March? Perhaps.

Whatever its reasons, Taco Bell is getting in on the National Donut Day action, according to USA Today.

Any customer placing an order of $20 or more on DoorDash, Uber Eats, Postmates, or GrubHub can receive a two-pack of Cinnabon Delights for free this Friday.

Your Kitchen

The Salvation Army of North Texas offers a more commemorative way to celebrate International Donut Day.

The original recipe used by the Donut Lassies can be found here for making your very own sweet treats.

While it does call for lard, the Salvation Army notes that “it is no longer 1917” and butter or vegetable oil can be used as alternatives.
