Fresh Produce in DFW

With consumers recognizing the value of fresh, local, and nutritious produce, the farmers market scene in Dallas-Fort Worth is taking off.

While conditions in North Texas might not be the best in the country for growing all manners of fruits and vegetables, it nonetheless offers growers temperate year-round conditions, something that cannot be said for much of the Lone Star State. Increasingly, boutique growers are showcasing the region’s best, focusing on thriving niches like sprouted greens.

And it is not just fruits and vegetables metroplex residents are after. Markets in the area often include delicious food trucks, coffee, and crafts from local artisans. Just don’t expect to find purple tomatoes at any of the locations on this list:

  • Bonton Farms: Except Sunday, this non-profit market is open every day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than a farmers market, Bonton Farms includes a café that serves breakfast and lunch as a well as community-centric coffee house.
  • Frisco Fresh Market: Open year-round from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, the market located at 9215 John W. Ellio Dr. in Frisco can hold over 100 vendors.
  • White Rock Farmers Market: Located at the White Rock United Methodist Church, this market is open on Saturdays from March through December from 8 a.m. to noon.
  • Lakewood Village Farmers Market: Open Sundays from February through July from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., this market is located at 6435 W. Mockingbird Ln.
  • Four Seasons Market: Shop while enjoying barbeque and live music here. Check their website for exact hours and the location.
  • Frisco Rotary Farmers Market: Young children will enjoy the free stickers, popsicles, and face painting on offer while mom and dad shop for fresh produce. It is open April through December, 8 a.m. to noon, at 6048 Frisco Square Blvd.
  • McKinney Farmers Market: For a taste of pioneering authenticity, check out the history of McKinney Farmers Market at Chestnut Square every Saturday all year round. The market is open from 8 a.m. to noon from April through December and 9 a.m. to noon from January through March.
  • North Richland Hills Farmers Market: For a broader selection of goods, check out the North Richland Hills Farmers Market. While you can find plenty of local produce, you will also see goods sourced from outside North Texas.
  • Clearfork Farmers Market: This spot is open all year, typically from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday, though winter hours push the opening time up to 9 a.m. following daylight savings.
