Even with the summer heat reaching its peak this week, there is no stopping eager visitors to Dallas Zoo, especially on the season’s last Dollar Day.

August 8 was the last day this summer that guests could gain entrance to the zoo for just $1 — a significant discount from the usual price of $16 to $22.

Tickets were sold out the day before, as indicated by a post from Dallas Zoo.

“Our second Dollar Day is tomorrow, and tickets are SOLD OUT! If you already have tickets reserved for tomorrow, we’re so excited to welcome you! Remember to stay COOL by finding shade, popping into our air-conditioned spaces and staying hydrated!” the post read.

As reported in The Dallas Express, this year’s Dollar Days, held on July 13 and August 8, were highly anticipated by those wishing to catch a glimpse of the majestic big cats, graceful giraffes, playful penguins, and vibrantly colored reptiles housed at the zoo without breaking the bank.

Of course, this is just a small taste of the zoo’s fascinating creatures.

In May, a baby Klipspringer named Mitzi was added to the crew. She was the first new calf born at Dallas Zoo in 23 years.

Due to her young age, Mitzi wasn’t among the animals on display for the crowd of approximately 25,000 people visiting the zoo on the last Dollar Day.

Speaking with Fox 4 KDFW, young zoo visitors Paris Bailey and Alivia Pena shared some timely guidance for those planning a trip to the zoo during such hot conditions.

“Put on some like not hot clothes so you won’t get really warmed up really bad,” Paris suggested.

“Stay hydrated. Always have hats on,” Alivia advised.

Recognizing the potential challenges with the heat, Dallas Zoo had already adjusted its opening time to 8 a.m. for the month of August.

As reported in The Dallas Express, meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth expect this and the coming weeks to be the hottest of the summer for the region.
